love at first sight

I loved her the moment I saw her. My heart melted and I was hers. Hook, line and sinker.

Let me tell you how it started.

I was a carer for a lady who passed away and I was looking for something to fill the void. I was reading the local newspaper when the advert caught my eye.

"Wanted, carer for gentleman."

One week later the gentleman interviewed me and she was there. The shadow of the alcove covered her body. She stood quietly and listened as we talked about the requirements of the job.

The next day I went to the local market and chanced upon a stall selling oil paintings,prints and pictures. My eyes roved over the wares and settled on a picture of two lovers reclining on the sand on a starry night.

"Beautiful,isn't it?" said a voice behind me.

I turned round and found two big brown eyes staring back at me. I looked at her playful eyes and at that moment she captured me.

"That's us in the picture," she started.

"How?" I began.

"Don't you remember? she replied

I turned my head and looked at the picture till the sun cast its twilight shadow on the market.

The following morning,I started the new job for the gentleman. His name was Melvin. I came in through the door and said;

"Hi mister Melvin."

He laughed.

"Mister Melvin, that's a good one."

"Oh."

"Just call me Mel,no need for any formalities here," he said.

"May I be so bold to ask a question?" I ventured.

"Fire away," he said.

"Who was that beautiful assistant I saw with you at the market yesterday?" I asked.

"That was Shona,he replied. She helps me on the days that you have off."

One afternoon on my off day,I waited for Shona at the end of Mel's road. She slowed her car and stopped near me.

"Hi," she said.

"Can I ask you something?" I uttered.

"Sure."

"Are you attached?," I inquired.

"No."

"Would you like to go out with me?" I ventured.

"Yes,I would like to go out with you," she answered.

We dated twice a week and I got to know and love her more. One evening as we sat in a bar over a drink,I told her about my feelings.

"I love you Shona," I said.

"I know," she replied.

Her eyes misted over and she took my hand in hers. She leaned towards me and kissed me on the lips. I held her tightly and whispered,

"I love you."

Over and over again,till the words became a mantra and for a split second I saw us on a far away world sharing our love.

She looked at me and said;

"Do you remember now?"

"Yes!I cried. I have always loved you, but what are we doing here on this world?"

"We had a vision,she replied.

"A vision?"

"Yes. A vision to help the sick and needy and putting this world to rights," she explained.

"But how did we get here, how come there is a picture of us in the market?" I queried.

"We are angels who came down to this world in human form," she answered.

"And the pictures of us in the market?" I said.

"An artist dreamt of us on our world one night and painted what he saw the next day from the memory of the dream," she concluded.

"Ah. I remember, I remember, I remember," I chanted quietly.

I looked at Shona, she made me feel deliciously good.

"What are you thinking?" she asked.

"I am thinking of giving you a big hug, putting my hand on your head and gently massaging your scalp. While I am doing that, I want to look into your eyes,so that you can look into ny eyes and see how much I love you."

"You were always the romantic," she teased.

I looked at her and said;

"Shona, you are my life, my love, my angel. The woman I have always loved and who I loved again at first sight."
