Love on the line
The persistent ring of the mobile phone merged with the dream. I turned over and looked at the bedside clock,it's red glow shimmered in the darkened room.
I clutched the phone.
"Do you realise what time it is?" I said
"I am sorry, the line, phone, mobile and number is perfect" replied the voice.
"Now that you have woken me up, what can I do for you?" I retorted angrily.
"I have been searching for you for a long time," started the female voice.
"Yes," I said as I sat up in bed.
"Our spiritual and psychological profiles match to the order of ninety five percent. We are the perfect match," she explained.
"Great, good night or should I say good morning," I replied.
"No.Wait." she cried as I ended the conversation.
Perfect match indeed, I thought as I fell asleep.
The next night, I was just putting my mobile to charge for the night when it rang.
"Hello," said the voice.
"Oh, its you," I replied.
"Who did you think it was?" she queried.
"I don't know, my phone don't normally ring at this time of night," I answered.
"It's only nine o'clock," she chided.
"Pardon me for having an early night," I retorted.
"Anyway, as I was saying last night," she continued.
"Hold it!" I cried. This is my early night.
"It won't take a minute," she interrupted.
"You have two minutes," I said.
"Your name is Michael?" she queried.
"Yes," I mumbled.
"Well, we have known each other since time immemorial," she started.
"Whoa, slow down," I said.
"You are my love," she exclaimed.
"Steady on. Say what you have just said, real slow now," I commanded.
"We have known each other since the beginning of time."
"And what is your name?" I asked.
"I am called, the one who has always loved you."
I started to laugh.
"I don't know anyone by that name."
"Yes you do."
"Anyway, that sounds like a made up name to me," I said.
"You know me by another name."
"And what is that other name?" I inquired.
"You know me as June, born in July," she answered.
"June, June. The moon. I remember now."
I sat up as goose pimples ran down my back. A shadow lifted from my mind.
"Yes, I loved you once, but that was in another time."
"I love you Michael," cried June.
"The love has gone," I said as I heard her crying over her lost love on the line.
